My focus is on South Asian religions and culture with emphasis on Hindu religious traditions, Sanskrit, and Hindi.  My current research is about how ghosts and demons in India upend common (mis)conceptions about “Hinduism” and the ways these entities reveal the hypostasis and anxieties of north Indian culture.  I am also interested in how myths have been used to legitimize state formations (such as what may be found in the Srimad Ekalingamahatmyam) and how religious ideals and issues are presented in Bollywood movies.
