Giving Back to the Department of Religious Studies
UNC Charlotte’s Department of Religious Studies is an interdisciplinary program that values rich student experiences and meaningful faculty research. As one of the oldest departments at UNCC, religious studies is a key component of humanities education on our campus and in our community. You can help support our efforts in the following ways:
Faculty Research: Our faculty is very research active, publishing books and articles in a wide range of topics both contemporary and historical. Your gift will help us bring other experts working in these fields to the UNC Charlotte campus to share their work and collaborate with us and our students. It will also help us attend conferences and workshops in the United States and around the globe.
Student Research: Our graduate and undergraduate students are involved in research, too, with many of our graduate students presenting papers at professional conferences and more and more undergraduates involved in honors thesis work. Our students have most recently presented at the American Academy of Religion Annual Meeting, the Southeastern Commission for the Study of Religion, and the North Carolina Religious Studies Association.
Study Abroad: Your gift will help us provide scholarships to undergraduate or graduate students who study abroad as part of Dig Mount Zion, a summer program at an active archeological dig in Jerusalem. For more information, see: About Us > Dig Mt. Zion Info

Gifts made to create an endowed fund are invested for perpetuity. A portion of the earned income is then used to support the fund’s purpose. Any excess earnings are reinvested, allowing the fund to grow. Endowments may be created for student scholarships and fellowships, faculty chairs and professorships, or many other purposes.
Planned gifts include gifts of marketable securities such as stocks and bonds; estate gifts through a bequest in a will or through a trust; charitable gift annuities or charitable remainder trusts that provide a lifetime income stream to the donor; and other gifts of real estate or tax-deferred retirement assets.
